Beacon Academy Celebrate GCSE Success

Happy students and teachers celebrated another positive set of GCSE results at Beacon Academy in Cleethorpes.
Head teacher Jason Thurley was “delighted” the class of 2022 had made positive progress against their target grades with many students achieving the top 9-7 grades. “It is another positive set of results that reflect the hard work put in by students and staff,” Mr Thurley said. “I am particularly pleased with the overall progress across the full range of subjects with the progress in our option subjects once again, outstanding. “The students have had to catch-up due to the pandemic. They have kept going and achieved some great results and deserve an enormous amount of credit. I would also like to thank the parents for their support. “The fantastic staff team at Beacon have worked incredibly hard and I want to thank them all for their efforts supporting the students,” said Mr Thurley.

Jenna Alexander achieved 9 GCSEs including grades 7-9 in English literature, maths, history, science, sports studies and music. She said: “I am absolutely ecstatic but surprised as I did not think I would do as well as I have.”
Twins Christopher and Andrew Turner achieved the same passes in English Language (5), English Literature (4) and Maths (5) as well as top 9-7 grades across a range of subjects. Andrew’s progress score was +0.51. Christopher said: “I am very happy as I have got the grades I wanted.” Both will now attend Franklin College.

Proud parents Linda and Stewart Carter were there to see daughter Layla open her results envelope containing 9 GCSE passes, including a grade 9 in sports studies. Layla said: “I’m just so happy to have passed them all, particularly Maths.” Linda was “very proud.” “She has worked so hard for them,” said Stewart.

A pleased Ben Childerley achieved 9 GCSE passes including a grade 9 in photography. “I was shocked when I saw the results,” he said. “I am just relieved.” Other high-achieving students included Luke Deitch, who achieved 9 GCSE passes and a progress score of +0.73 Eve Edwards recorded 9 GCSE passes and the top 9-7 grades in History, Fine Art, Photography and Sports while Lucas Heppell achieved 9 GCSE passes and a progress score of +2.72.

The positive results maintain the academy’s forward momentum. It was graded ‘good’ by Ofsted in the new inspection framework in March 2020. “The improvements at Beacon are being rewarded. The academy is heavily over-subscribed for September when almost 600 children will attend,” Mr Thurley said. “It means a further expanded curriculum and more specialised teachers. “We are also pleased that a planned open evening for Year 6 students transferring to secondary education in 2022 will take place on Tuesday, 13 th September between 5-8:30pm.”
