Beacon Academy Pupils Contribute to Lasting Legacy with Time Capsule Project
Beacon Academy is creating a tangible link to the future, thanks to the thoughtful contributions of pupils across the school who have provided ideas and resources for a special time capsule.
Led by Head of History, Mr. Gilson, this engaging project encouraged pupils to become historians and futurists simultaneously. A significant focus involved Year 7 pupils, who embarked on a journey of self-reflection, considering their present lives, their aspirations for the future, and the personal legacy they hope to leave behind. This process aimed to enlighten them about their place in history and the potential impact they can have.
Beyond personal reflection, pupils across the school were invited to a special masterclass with Mr Gilson where he challenged them to innovate in their thinking, exploring what the local area and the wider world might look like in 100 years. They contemplated how current ways of working could advance or even be eradicated over the next ten decades, demonstrating foresight and imaginative thinking.

The dedication and hard work of the pupils were evident throughout the project. Their diverse contributions, ranging from predictions about technology and society to examples of school life today, were carefully curated for inclusion in the capsule.

The culmination of this exciting initiative saw pupils proudly present the final selection of items to Ms. Sneyd. Commenting on the project, Ms. Sneyd described it as “a remarkable event that will provide a legacy for Beacon Academy.” She praised the pupils’ engagement and the meaningful nature of their contributions

Following the presentation, the time capsule will officially be handed over to our building contractor, Tilbury Douglas, to be securely placed within the walls of our new build. This ensures that the voices and visions of our current pupils will be preserved for future generations to discover.
Mrs. Everton, Head of Student Experience, highlighted the significance of the project, stating, “This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and we were delighted to get so many pupils involved.” The project successfully managed to inspire pupils to think beyond the present and consider their connection to both the past and the future.
