Year 6 to Year 7

Moving from primary to secondary school is an exciting milestone, and at Beacon Academy, we are here to support every student and their family through this journey. This page contains all the key information you need to help make the transition to Year 7 as smooth and successful as possible.

At Beacon Academy, we recognise that the move from primary to secondary school can feel like a big step. That’s why we have developed a thoughtful and structured transition programme designed to ease the process for students, parents, and carers. We work closely with our feeder primary schools to ensure that all students feel confident, well-prepared, and excited about their next chapter.

Our transition programme includes:

  • Year 5 and Year 6 Visits: We invite students from Year 5 and Year 6 to visit Beacon Academy, experience a day in the life of a secondary school student, take part in engaging lessons, and meet our friendly staff and students. These visits help students feel familiar and comfortable with their new school environment.
  • Open Day (TBC): Our Open Day gives families the opportunity to explore our school, discover our exceptional facilities, and speak with our staff and current students. This is a great way to get a feel for what life at Beacon Academy will be like.
  • Transition Evening: For parents and carers, our Transition Evening provides important information about what to expect in Year 7. It’s a chance to meet key staff, ask questions, and get the support you need to prepare for the next steps.
  • Transition Days (Summer Term): In the summer term, Year 6 students will spend time at Beacon Academy, meeting their classmates, taking part in fun activities, and familiarising themselves with the school before September. This gives students a chance to get to know their new environment and start forming friendships.

Choosing a secondary school is one of the most important decisions a family can make. At Beacon Academy, we are committed to ensuring that every student receives the support, opportunities, and encouragement they need to thrive. Our aim is to help each student grow into an ambitious, resilient, and kind young adult ready to achieve their personal and academic best.

We are guided by our core values of Enlighten, Inspire, and Innovate. These values underpin everything we do at Beacon Academy. They shape the way we teach, support, and challenge our students, and they form the foundation of our school community. By embracing these values, students are encouraged to aim high, engage with new ideas, and develop their creativity and problem-solving skills.

What Happens After National Offers Day?
After National Offers Day, if you have received an offer to join Beacon Academy, we will be in touch with the next steps and important details about your child’s transition. If you have not received an offer, you will be automatically added to the waiting list, and you can find more information about appeals and options through the local council.

At Beacon Academy, we are excited about the next chapter in your child’s educational journey, and we look forward to working closely with you and your child to ensure a smooth and successful transition into Year 7.
